Boats in the Bay – A St Ives Maritime Festival

Theme 2 Marketing & Events

Boats in the Bay is a community-led celebration of St Ives’ maritime heritage — a chance for us, as a town, to come together and recognise the harbour that has shaped our identity for generations.

Fishing is not just part of our history; it remains a living, working industry at the heart of St Ives. From the inshore fleet landing daily catch to the families whose livelihoods have long depended on the sea, our harbour continues to define who we are. Boats in the Bay is about recognising that contribution and celebrating the skills, resilience and tradition that still thrive here today.

We are proud to be working alongside the Jumbo Association, whose beautifully restored traditional luggers represent the rich seafaring heritage of Cornwall. Their presence connects our modern harbour with the generations of fishermen and boatbuilders who came before us.

The day will bring together working boats, heritage vessels, local organisations and the wider community around the harbour. It’s an opportunity to pause, look out across the bay, and reflect on the role the sea continues to play in our town’s economy and character.

For local businesses, Boats in the Bay is also a moment to showcase the strength and spirit of St Ives. Events like this reinforce what makes our town distinctive — our working harbour, our independent traders, and the strong sense of community that underpins it all.

This is about pride in place.
About honouring our fishing community.
About celebrating St Ives — past, present and future.

We look forward to welcoming residents, harbour users and businesses to be part of the day.
