Although this is not a BID project (many people in town think it is!) lots of businesses asked us to provide more information around the low carbon Strategy and how it would affect businesses. Throughout the consultation period BID have had a presence on the sub-group committee to keep our businesses in the loop and we have been cascading any relevant information out on our monthly Newsletters but we felt that it was really important to give businesses the opportunity to speak to the team around the project in person before work starts in the Autumn.
Thankyou to everyone who attended our Business Breakfast meeting to discuss the transport changes happening in town directly with the team responsible for delivering the project. We hope it was really useful for businesses to come and ask questions directly to the team as well as get a full understanding of what the project entails and a timeline of events (which was discussed in detail at the meeting). If any businesses would like to discuss any issues or concerns about the scheme please contact the BID office and we can put you in contact with the right person within their project team.
A public version of this meeting is likely to be organised in September by the Town Council.
ST IVES TOWN DEAL LOW CARBON TRANSPORT STRATEGY
The St Ives Low Carbon Transport Strategy is being funded and delivered as part of the St Ives Town Deal programme to help reduce the impact of vehicles on St Ives and introduce measures that encourage walking, cycling and the use of public transport.
The project has been allocated £5.5 million of Town Deal funding to create a Low Transport Environment (LTE) within the town centre by reducing traffic, enhancing safety, increasing accessibility, improving environmental health and delivering community and economic benefits. This funding needs to be spent by March 2026. Longer term measures will need to be funded from other sources.
Developed in partnership with key stakeholders, the initial draft Strategy contained several proposals aimed at reducing traffic congestion and parking demand in the town centre, enhancing public transport options and accessibility, improving air quality and health outcomes for residents and visitors and supporting local businesses by creating a more attractive and vibrant town.
