It will come as no great surprise to hear that due to the COVID restrictions St Ives BID has taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks.
Acting on advice from the Police and Council Safety bodies, in light of the no gatherings larger than 6 people, it was felt that while we are aware that the town will have a number of people who decide to come down for a New Year’s break, putting on the fireworks would only encourage people to gather in the streets.
However, we are determined for this year not to be a complete washout and working within social distancing guidelines, without organising any specific events we are extending the period of time when we have the Christmas Lights up and encouraging a number of towns businesses to remain open for late-night shopping for four consecutive Thursday evenings starting from 26th November.
St Ives in December Group is looking to run a shop window competition, a treasure hunt, and a food trial.
We are working to see what we can and can’t do over the Christmas period and a more comprehensive list will be available here and on St Ives in December website very soon.
