Festoon Lights

The much-loved and needed, new, led, festoon lights are now up in nine streets, including St Andrew’s Street, Gabriel Street and Tregenna Hill. The news has been welcomed by residents, tourists and local businesses who have all been concerned about the lack of street lighting in the town. The longest festoon lighting in Europe has been saved!

Initially the Town Council was set reinstall three of the nine streets with the new festoon lighting. The BID board listened to a lot of concerned businesses who would be essentially left in darkness due to poor street lighting. The board knew this would have a damaging effect on the businesses in question as people tend to avoid unlit areas, especially those who are visiting the town and who are not aware of the shops, restaurants and places of interest they are missing out on.

The board decided to offer the Town Council and the St Ives Decorative Lights Association (DLA), ((who have been working very hard over the last few years to raise enough money to ensure the security of the lights)) 10k with the offer of more if it was needed, as long as all nine streets were re-lit in time for the busy Easter bank holiday.
