Helen Tripconey, St Ives BID Manager, said:
“St Ives always hosts a fantastic selection of festive entertainment and this year is going to be better than ever. St Ives in December has been working tirelessly to coordinate a great range of events, from wine tastings to craft fairs and of course the Christmas lights switch on, which attract huge crowds to the town.
“Our aim at BID is to support our business community to thrive and these events continue to showcase St Ives as the perfect place to get some Christmas shopping, enjoy a bite to eat and get into the festive spirit.”
Among the many events coming up throughout December, Fantastic Friday, November 29th, and Super Saturday, November 30th, are expected to welcome big crowds to the town.
Father Christmas will be arriving in St Ives in style on the RNLI lifeboat before heading through the town for the big lights switch-on; Kids R Us is holding a bazaar complete with local crafts, art, jewelry, vintage finds, Christmas wreaths, and tasty treats; Saffron Christmas Market will welcome more than 40 stalls of art, crafts and goodies, live music and food at the Guildhall.
The following day, the town will be enjoying Fayre Mo, an event that dates back to 1490 and traditionally marks the start of the festive celebrations in St Ives at St Ia’s Church. A Winter Wonderland will open its doors with Father Christmas in his Grotto, with his elves and the St Ives Mermaid; Tate St Ives will be holding its Winter Festival; businesses will go head to head in a shop window competition all with a Sleeping Beauty theme.
Helen added that the New Year fireworks are once again being supplied by award-winning firework provider and local Cornish company, Celebration Pyrotechnics, ringing in the New Year in style with the fireworks lighting up the sky over the St Ives harbour front.
Motorists will also be able to enjoy free parking at all Cornwall Council car parks in the town on Saturday, November 30th and local businessman Peter Eddy is also offering free parking at the Stennack Launderette car park on that day as well as free evening parking on November 29th and December 7th.
St Ives BID is a not-for-profit company and has completed a number of innovative projects as part of its work to improve the trading environment of St Ives. These schemes included funding the popular Christmas lights and New Year fireworks, a CCTV system, wayfaring signage, and annual summer seagull awareness campaigns.
